Steenbuck hunting South Africa

Our hunters typically hunt the South African Steenbok in conjunction with a 7-10 day African Safari. One of our Experienced and Licensed Professional Hunters will be your guide during your Steenbuck Hunt. We typically hunt Steenbuck Safari Style, Spot and Stalk, or by Still Hunting if you are a Bow Hunter. We can accommodate all methods of Hunting for Steenbuck including Rifle, Bow, Black Powder, Crossbow or Handgun. We can accommodate hunters of any age and experience level.  We hunt Steenbuck in open areas with high grass near our lodge concessions. This area of Limpopo is home to many trophy steenbok.

The Steenbuck which we hunt on our South Africa Concession are some of the biggest in the World. You can expect a 5 inch Steenbuck (Gold Medal SCI) on average when hunting with us, with some each year exceeding 6 inches.

The Steenbok (Raphicerus campestris) is a small antelope species native to southern and eastern Africa.

What do Steenbuck look like:

Steenbucks are small antelopes that have reddish-brown coat and light colored underbelly. They have a small head with large rounded ears. Horns are only present in males, and stretch to about 4-6 inches. They typically only weigh from 20-35 pounds, they are one of the smallest antelopes.

Steenbuck Habitat:

Steenbucks inhabit a variety of habitats like savannas, grasslands, scrublands, and semi-arid regions. They are found in areas with lots of dense vegetation so that they can both hide from predators and find good food.

Steenbuck Diet:

Steenbucks are herbivores that feed on grasses, leaves, shoots, and fruits. They are picky eaters that prefer tender and nutritious foods.

Steenbuck Behavior:

Steenbucks are mostly active during the day. They are territorial and use scent markings to establish their territories. Steenbucks are solitary animals, but they form temporary pairs during the mating season.

Steenbuk Reproduction:

Breeding can occur year round but mainly occurs in the rainy season. Females will give birth to a single calf after a gestation period of 6-7 months. The mother will hide the calf in dense vegetation for the first few weeks to keep it hidden from any predators.
