Safari Hunt Africa allows the opportunity to hunt and harvest South African Baboon. Year round, we offer hunts for the sought after Baboon. There are no seasonal restrictions on hunting the Baboon in South Africa, which makes it a suitable trophy year round. You must obtain a hunting permit in advance to hunt Baboon in South Africa…we will do this on your behalf about a month prior to your hunting safari, so make sure you notify us of your desire to hunt Baboon prior to your arrival.
Our hunters typically hunt the South African Baboon in conjunction with a 7-10 day African Safari. One of our Experienced and Licensed Professional Hunters will be your guide during your Baboon Hunt. We typically hunt Baboon Safari Style. We can accommodate hunters of any age and experience level.
Baboon hunts are not easy. The Baboon troop will see or hear you most cases before you see them. Most shot opportunities when driving Safari Style or walking through the bush on a Baboon will be 200-400 yards either on a side of a cliff, or crossing a road on a concession. Recently, we have some new opportunities to hunt Baboon from a blind at a waterhole where we can nearly guarantee an opportunity to harvest a Baboon.
Baboons are Old World monkeys that belong to the genus Papio. They are found in various parts of Africa and are known for their social structures and adaptability. The species of Baboon native to Limpopo, South Africa, is the Chacma Baboon.
What do Baboons look like:
Baboons are generally large monkeys, but size can vary among the 5 different species of Baboon in South Africa. They have fur that can range in different color from olive to brown, and some species have a specific type of hair on their heads, which often forms a mane.
Baboon Habitat:
Baboons are found in a wide range of habitats, including savannas, open woodlands, and rocky hills. They are native to various parts of Africa, from the savannas of sub-Saharan Africa, to the Arabian Peninsula. We find them in our areas mostly in the Mountains.
Baboon Behavior:
Baboons are primarily ground-dwelling animals, but are also skilled climbers who escape from their predators in trees. They communicate with a wide variety of grunts, barks, and screams. These creatures are highly social and live in groups called troops. Within the troop, there’s a social hierarchy, and dominant males usually lead the group.
Diet of a Baboon:
Baboons are omnivores whose diet includes a wide variety of foods such as grass, flowers, leaves, seeds, and insects.
