Cape Buffalo Hunting

Safari Hunt Africa allows the opportunity to hunt and harvest Giant South African Cape Buffalo. The Limpopo Province of South Africa is the premier destination in the Southern Africa to hunt the Cape Buffalo. Year round, we offer hunts for awesome Trophy Cape Buffalo. There are no seasonal restrictions on hunting the Cape Buffalo in South Africa, which makes it a suitable trophy year round.

Cape Buffalo hunting South Africa

Our hunters typically hunt the South African Cape Buffalo in conjunction with a 7-10 day African Safari. One of our Experienced and Licensed Professional Hunters will be your guide during your Cape Buffalo Hunt. We typically hunt Cape Buffalo Safari Style, Spot and Stalk, or by Still Hunting if you are a Bow Hunter. We can accommodate all methods of Hunting for Cape Buffalo including Rifle, Bow, Black Powder, Crossbow or Handgun. We can accommodate hunters of any age and experience level.

The Cape Buffalo which we hunt on our South Africa Concession are big and numerous. You can expect to see 20-50 Buffalo in a herd on our larger concessions. Our Cape Buffalo Bulls typically go 38″ on average, and could go upwards of 43 to 46″ in width.

We also offer limited numbers of Soft Bossed Cape Buffalo Bulls of trophy caliber.  The only difference in mounting a soft bossed Cape Buffalo Bull is that your taxidermist will need to recreate the bosses when mounting your trophy.

The Cape Buffalo, also known as the African buffalo (Syncerus caffer), is a large and powerful herbivorous mammal native to sub-Saharan Africa. The Cape buffalo is also one of the Big Five…the most dangerous and difficult animals to hunt in Africa.

What do Cape buffalo look like:

Cape buffalo are massive and robust animals. They can weigh from 935 pounds to 2000 pounds.  They have a dark brown/black coat and very coarse hair, as well as a layer of mud that serves as extra protection from the sun. In bulls the horns meet in the middle of their head and from a continuous bone shield called a “boss”. These horns can reach up to one meter, but don’t become “hard” until they are 8 or 9 years old. Cows also have horns, but they’re much smaller.

Cape buffalo Habitat:

The Cape buffalo thrives in a variety of habitats, being grasslands, dry savanna, swamps, and forests in the sub-Saharan Africa.

Cape buffalo Behavior:

Cape buffalo are highly social, and live in herds of up to 2000 in the wild! These herds are led by a dominant female, while the males are more solitary and often form other small bachelor groups. Cape buffalo are known for their strong herds and will fiercely protect themselves against predators. Lions are their main predators, but they are known to work together to defend themselves against any predator. Cape buffalo show very unpredictable and aggresive behavior, making them one of the big five dangerous game animals in Africa.

Cape buffalo Diet:

Cape buffalo are herbivores and primally graze on grass. The herd needs to find a place where grass quickly regenerates itself because they are in such large groups.

Threats to Cape buffalo:

Cape buffalo aren’t considered endangered yet, but they do face many threats such as habitat loss, disease, and illegal hunting.
